PURPOSE: A cogeneration device and a control method thereof are provided to prevent damage to or malfunction of electric components with minimum components and minimum cost by heating the electric components over the lowest limit of use temperature using the heat emitted by the operation of an engine. CONSTITUTION: A cogeneration device comprises a chassis(1), a generator(2), an engine(5), a heat transfer member, a temperature sensing part(50), automotive electric components(8,34,46), and a controller(60). The generator is arranged inside the chassis. The engine is placed inside the chassis and drives the generator so that generator may produce the electricity. The heat transfer member collects heat of one or more of the generator and the engine. The temperature sensing part senses the inner temperature of the chassis. The automotive electric component is installed inside the chassis. In case the sensed temperature of the temperature sensing part is below preset temperature and an engine is suspended, the controller operates the engine in order to raise the temperature of the automotive electric component over the lowest limit of use temperature.
