<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens having a variable power ratio of about 3, having a wide viewing angle on the wide-angle side, having bright F-number, and being capable of obtaining proper imaging performance, and to provide a camera equipped with the zoom lens. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The zoom lens includes a first group G1 having negative power, an aperture diaphragm, a second group G2 having positive power and a third group G3 having a positive power; the power is varied by shifting the first group G1 and the second group G2 on an optical axis, but fixing the third group G3, then changing respective distances between the first group, the second group and the third group; in varying the power, the diaphragm is integrally shifted with the second group; and the first group includes a negative lens, air, a negative lens, air and a positive lens; the third group includes one lens, and the second group includes a positive lens, a positive and negative doublet, and a positive lens; and a conditional expression for attaining appropriate imaging performance and the appropriate exit pupil position is satisfied, in a state where the third group is constituted of a small number of lenses.
