摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an optical carrier phase difference between optical pulses structuring an OTDM-DPSK signal, by generally-used optical and electrical elements. <P>SOLUTION: An OTDM-DPSK signal generating section 28 has an optical splitter 12, a first phase modulator 14, a second phase modulator 16, an optical coupler 20, and a monitor signal branching device 26, and generates and outputs an OTDM-DPSK signal 27-1 and a monitor signal 27-2. An optical carrier phase difference detecting section 30 has an optical carrier interferometer 32 and an interference signal detecting section 34 further including an optical-to-electrical converter 36 and a peak detection circuit 40. The monitor signal is input to the optical carrier interferometer, and an interference monitor signal 33 is output. The interference monitor signal is input to the optical-to-electrical converter, and an electrical interference monitor signal 37 is output.
