<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the recovery of poxviruses, in particular modified Vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA), from infected cells. <P>SOLUTION: The poxvirus-infected cells are subjected to high-pressure homogenization to obtain a poxvirus-containing homogenate. The poxvirus-containing homogenate can be subjected to at least one purification step to obtain a poxvirus-enriched fraction.
