PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon material having a fine and regular unevenness pattern on its surface, and a manufacturing method thereof. SOLUTION: There is provided a carbon material having a fine and regular unevenness pattern on its surface, manufactured by using an aluminum oxide mold having a regular hole array structure on its surface obtained by anodizing an aluminum material, or a negative mold fabricated using the aluminum oxide mold as a template, transferring the surface structure of the mold to a polymer to become a carbon precursor, and thereafter subjecting the polymer to a carbonization treatment.
