PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a powdery alumina precursor, by which powdery alumina can be produced with high volume efficiency from powdery aluminum hydroxide obtained by hydrolysis of aluminum alkoxide. SOLUTION: The production method of a powdery alumina precursor includes mixing powdery aluminum hydroxide obtained by hydrolysis of aluminum alkoxide with the following aqueous medium and then drying. The aqueous medium includes water or a mixture medium of water and water-soluble alcohol, with the content of water in the mixture medium being not less than 15 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the mixture medium.
