PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a high quality color image by easily and highly accurately adjusting the formation position of a line latent image formed on a latent image carrier, in an apparatus provided with a latent image forming section forming the line latent image by scanning light beams on the latent image carrier. SOLUTION: Skew information for each color component is prestored in a storage section such as an FRAM. When an image signal is input from an external device, the light beams for forming a latent image are scanned on a photoreceptor in a scanning direction corresponding to the skew information stored in the FRAM. Thus, each of the line latent images LIy, LIm, LIc and LIk is inclined in a direction coincident with a reference line RL common in an image forming means or in the same direction as the reference line RL common in the image forming means, thereby color misregistration is corrected.
