PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel for a bearing for obtaining a bearing with further improved rolling fatigue life. SOLUTION: The steel for a bearing has a composition comprising, by mass, 0.95 to 1.10% C, 0.15 to 0.35% Si, ≤0.50% (excluding 0%) Mn, 1.30 to 1.60% Cr, <0.025% (excluding 0%) P and <0.025% (excluding 0%) S, and the balance iron with inevitable impurities, wherein the ratio in the area ratios of carbides [(the area ratio of carbides in the Cr-concentrated part)/(the area ratio of carbides in the Cr-non-segregated part)] observed in a Cr-concentrated part by banded segregation and in a Cr-non-segregated part, lies in the range of 1 to 4.
