<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a swing suppressing device for the traveling cables of an elevator capable of reliably preventing the traveling cables from coming into collision with a hoistway wall. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Each of the traveling cables 24A, 24B includes a U-shaped curved part, a first straightline part 27a extending from one side of the curved part 26 toward the upper part of the hoistway 3 through the gap between the hoistway wall 2 and a car side wall 18a, and a second straightline part 27b extending from the other side of the curved part 26 toward the lower part of a car 16 oppositely to the first straightline part 27a. A traveling cable unit 23 is formed of the traveling cables 24A, 24B arranged along the hoistway wall 2 while being displaced horizontally. A metal net 34 is provided over a specified range in the vertical direction between the hoistway wall 2 and the first straightline part 27a. A plurality of vertically arranged rings 36 are provided to each area of the metal net 34 extending horizontally to both sides of the traveling cable unit 23 along the hoistway wall 2.
