The unit (1) has a drive assembly-downtime module (2) i.e. freely-programmable micro-controller, attached to a control module of a motor vehicle, and including an interface to simulate the control module. The drive assembly-downtime module communicates with the control module using simple low- or high-level-information. The drive assembly-downtime module informs exceeding of preset downtime, when a freely-programmable period is elapsed after starting the drive assembly-downtime module. The drive assembly-downtime downtime module is activated, when a drive assembly-stop signal is transmitted.
