<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the life of an electric double layer capacitor while assure the electric power capacity required by a load, without degrading power source efficiency of a system. <P>SOLUTION: An electric power storage system is added to a system for supplying power from an AC power source 1 to a load 2, for converting the power stored in an electric double layer capacitor 4 by a power conversion device 3, to be supplied to the load. A load current measuring device 6 measures a current load current. A comparator 7 determines which of the load current and threshold value is larger. A control device 5 charge-controls or discharge-controls the electric double layer capacitor by switching between set voltages V1 and V2 corresponding to a load range determined by a determining means. A load current is substituted with a load power. The set value of a charge voltage is in three or more steps. The comparator has a hysteresis characteristic.
