PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small and inexpensive flash light. SOLUTION: The flash light 1 includes a primary winding wire N1 to which power is supplied from a power source P1; a capacitor C2 which constitutes a resonance circuit RC with the primary winding wire N1; a secondary winding wire N2 constituting a transformer T1 with the primary winding wire N1; a capacitor C3 in which charges are accumulated by an electromotive force generated in the secondary winding wire N2; a xenon tube Xe to which power is supplied from the capacitor C3; a trigger circuit TT which ionizes xenon gas sealed in the xenon tube Xe; and a switching element Q1 which closes, in ON state, a first current loop including the power source P1 and the resonance circuit RC and a second current loop including the capacitor C3 and the xenon tube Xe, and opens, in OFF state, the first current loop and the second current loop.
