<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoconductive element which relatively easily adjusts the direction of an electric field to be applied to a photoconductive film with respect to the thickness direction of the photoconductive film. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A photoconductive element includes a photoconductive film 12 having a photoconductivity, and a first electrode 13 and a second electrode 14 for applying voltage to the photoconductive film 12. The first electrode 13 and the second electrode 14 are so arranged as to hold the photoconductive film 12 therebetween in the thickness direction. In a carrier generation region 15 of the photoconductive film 12 wherein carriers are generated by photoexcitation, the first electrode 13 and the second electrode 14 are in contact by the edge or are separated when viewed from the thickness direction of the photoconductive film 12.
