<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display that suppresses contamination of the liquid crystal material caused by the fact that liquid crystal material does not spread uniformly over the whole panel and as a result the liquid crystal material contacts a non-cured seal material. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes columnar spacers on one of a pair of substrates, an orientation material and the seal material are applied between the pair of substrates, and the liquid crystal material is filled between them. The columnar spacers have a major axis direction and a minor axis direction when viewed from the substrate normal direction, and include asymmetrical columnar spacers having a rear end sharpened with respect to the chip of the major axis direction. The asymmetrical columnar spacers are arranged in a pixel region near at least one corner section of the one substrate so that the rear end of the major axis direction faces the corner section.
