<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight apparatus and a liquid crystal display apparatus, capable of reducing brightness unevenness in an emitting surface. <P>SOLUTION: An LED backlight 100 includes a plurality of LEDs 110 arranged on a predetermined surface with uneven arrangement density, and a diffusion plate 130 which light emitted from the plurality of LEDs 110 is incident on and imparts diffusion effect to the incident light, and the light emitted from the LEDs 110 is distributed more widely in a position with the lower arrangement density.
