<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a storage device with which temperature of a coil is accurately assumed. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The storage device includes: a head to read data stored in a storage medium or write it thereon; an arm to hold the head; a voice coil motor composed of the coil and a magnet and makes the arm move by applying a current to the coil; a casing to store the storage medium, the head, the arm, and the voice coil motor in it; a temperature sensor to detect temperature in the casing; and a controller to determine the quantity of the current fed through the coil for the purpose of moving the head to a target position on the storage medium, and to assume the temperature of the coil based on the quantity of the current fed through the coil, temperature in the casing detected with the temperature sensor, and a predetermined value.
