PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To selectively form an optical thin-film on an optical device without using a photolithographic method and an etching method, and besides, to simply form an optically effective plane with high coaxial precision. SOLUTION: The method for forming the optically effective plane on the optical device 1 includes the steps of: holding the optical device while exposing a formation face 1a outward on which the optically effective plane is to be formed; arranging a mask member 30 so as to oppose to the formation face while matching the center axis of the held optical device with its center axis; giving an attaching member 31 for attaching the mask member to the formation face to one side of the mask member; moving the mask member along the center axis of the optical device to closely attach the mask member to the formation face; forming the optical thin-film by forming a film made from a thin-film material on the whole formation face on which the mask member has been attached; and detaching the mask member and the attaching member to form the optically effective plane on the formation face.
