<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of preventing an adverse effect of verification generated by an area where there is low possibility for the need to identify an imprint image among the imprint images, when the feature value of the imprint image is extracted to be used for verification between a target image and the imprint image. Ž<P>SOLUTION: At the image processing apparatus, an imprint image acquisition means obtains an imprint image to be used as an object for verification. In response to a lump of pixels contained in the obtained imprint image, an imprint image classification means classifies the imprint image. An imprint image area division means divides the obtained imprint image into areas. An imprint image feature value extraction means extracts the feature value in the divided areas. A statistical value calculation means computes a statistical value about the extracted feature value for each classification of the classified imprint images. A statistical value storage means stores the statistical value computed by the statistical value calculation means, so that the stored statistical value is used for weighting upon verification between the target image and the imprint image obtained by the imprint image acquisition means.
