<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a feeder capable of effectively suppressing double feed of a sheet member positioned in a lower layer of a top sheet member when the top sheet member out of sheet members stacked in a laminated condition is fed, and to provide a recording device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This automatic feeder 13 is provided with a paper guide 17 for placing paper sheets P in the laminated condition, a paper feed roller 23 delivering the top paper sheet P out of the respective paper sheets P, a gate member 32 with an inclined surface 32a with which the front end of the delivered paper sheet P comes into collision, and a coil spring 40 energizing the gate member 32. By the top paper sheet P collided with the inclined surface 32a, the gate member 32 is separated from the paper feed roller 23 by the thickness of the paper sheet P against the energizing force of the coil spring 40. Moreover, the automatic feeder 13 is provided with a rotating member 37 displacing the gate member 32 by rotating so as to enlarge an angle formed by the inclined surface 32a and the top paper sheet P after the front end of the top paper sheet P passes the inclined surface 32a.
