The invention relates to the use of sterically hindered amines containing one or more groups of general formula (I), for stabilising inanimate organic materials, in particular of plastics or paints, where R1, R2 independently = H, C1-C20 alkyl, C3-C15 cycloalkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, heterocyclyl, R4, R5, R6, R7 independently = C1-C20 alkyl, or R4 and R6 or R5 and R7 together = tetramethylene or pentamethylene and R3 = aryl, or heteroaryl. The invention further relates to a method for stabilising inanimate organic materials, in articular of plastics or paints. Also disclosed are selected sterically hindered amines containing one or more groups of general formula (I) and materials containing the selected sterically hindered amines.
