Disclosed are a vinyl alcohol series polymer having a polyoxyalkylene group in a side chain, that is, a vinyl alcohol series polymer of a polyoxyalkylene denatured vinyl alcohol system polymer having an average viscometric degree of polymerization (P) of 200-5000, a degree of saponification of 20-99.99 mol%, and a denatured polyoxyalkylene amount (S) of 0.1-10 mol%, and a film containing same. Thus, it is possible to provide a polyvinyl alcohol series polymer that is water soluble and highly viscous, and a film having little decrease in the modulus of elongation when humidity is controlled in a high-humidity environment, and exhibiting water solubility with the film surface having excellent water repellency.
