The system (10) has a control element (20) i.e. control stick, coupled with a motor vehicle (12) over a wireless personal area network (18). A communication layer is implemented in the control element according to IEEE 802.15.4. Primary functions e.g. activating a power supply unit, and/or secondary functions e.g. flashing, of the motor vehicle are executed by the control element. The control element at a wheel chair (14) is externally arranged at the motor vehicle. A signal transmitter (22) is provided to indicate a coupled condition of the control element in the motor vehicle.
