The device (12) has a dosing valve (30) e.g. two-way valve, for discharging an active agent e.g. ammonia or precursor chemical, for exhaust gas after-treatment in an exhaust gas tube (14). The active agent for exhaust gas after-treatment is produced or stored in an ammonia producing unit (24). The unit is connected with a safety absorber (28) for the active agent. The device comprises a valve device e.g. pressure relief valve, which is arranged between the unit and the absorber. The valve device represents a crosspoint between the unit, the absorber and the tube.
