<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for preparing 14β-hydroxy-7-Boc-13-hydroxy-baccatin III-1,14-carbonate which is a useful intermediate of new taxane derivatives with antitumor activity. <P>SOLUTION: The process for preparing comprises: 7-Boc-13-ketobaccatin III is treated with suitable bases and oxidizing agents; and hydroxy-groups in positions 1 and 14 of the obtained 7-Boc-13-keto-14-hydroxy-baccatin III are carbonated to yield 14β-hydroxy-7-Boc-13-keto-baccatin III-1,14-carbonate.
