<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network construction method for constructing a topology by automatically canceling a loop existing in the topology. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A state machine 17, whose node is an initiate node, transmits a diagnostic packet SP from a port 18 thereof. When a diagnostic packet SP is received from a port 18 different from the port 18 that has transmitted the diagnostic packet SP, the state machine 17 determines that a loop including a bus cable connected to both the ports 18 exists.
