A luminaire comprising a reflector (4) for reflecting the appearance of a cylindrically shaped elongated light source (3), wherein the reflecting surface (5) of the reflector (4) extends symmetrically at both sides of a median plane (7) and parallel to the axis (6,26) of the light source (3), and wherein the appearance of the elongated light source (3) is visible at the front side of the luminaire directly as well as through said reflecting surface (5). The appearance of the light source (3) is visible as three parallel bright stripes in two areas at both side of the median plane (7)
