Provided is a fiber ring laser which comprises an excitation light source exciting a gain medium, at least one resonator in the shape of a closed ring (ring resonator) and a rare earth-doped fiber serving as the gain medium in the ring laser resonator, characterized in that a fiber provided with a core doped with at least one rare earth selected from among Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er and Tm is used as the rare earth-doped fiber and the laser oscillation wavelength is a short wavelength that is less than 1 µm.
