Use of amine oxide groups containing maleic anhydride co-polymers obtained by the reaction of at least 1 mole% of anhydride groups of maleic acid anhydride co-polymers with diamines (I) and subsequent oxidation to form monoamides and/or imide groups bounded amine oxide groups (II) and/or (III), in the manufacture of the cleaning and/or cosmetic care compositions, is claimed. Use of amine oxide groups containing maleic anhydride co-polymers, obtained by the reaction of at least 1 mole% of anhydride groups of maleic acid anhydride copolymers with diamines of formula (HR 1>N-R 2>-NR 3>R 4>) (I) and subsequent oxidation to form monoamides and/or imide groups bounded amine oxide groups of formula (II) and/or (III), in the manufacture of the cleaning and/or cosmetic care compositions, is claimed. R 1>H, 1-24C monovalent hydrocarbon; R 2>2-24C divalent alkylene; and R 3>, R 4>1-12C aliphatic alkyl or 1-12C, preferably 1-6C alicyclic alkyl. An independent claim is included for a detergent and/or cosmetic care composition, comprising the amine oxide groups containing maleic anhydride co-polymers, at least one surfactant and water.
