<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform highly precise transfer control of a recording medium in consideration of the deflection in the width direction of a transportation roller to record a high quality image. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A resist mark is recorded on a predetermined position of a recording medium in the transportation direction of the recording medium at a predetermined interval of the rotation angle of the transportation roller, while rotating the transportation roller. This is read with a resist mark reader to acquire the moving error information of the recording medium. The acquired moving error information is stored in a nonvolatile memory. At the time of actual recording, the amount of deflection of the transportation roller in the width direction of the recording medium is calculated based on the size information of the recording medium used for recording, which is received from the host, the recording position information in the width direction of the recording medium, and the moving error information. Next, the amount of transportation of the recording medium is calculated based on the rotation angle position and the stored moving error position information, and the rotation angle of the transportation roller corrected with the amount of deflection calculated to the amount of transportation is calculated.
