- Continuous hot casting and rolling process for magnesium strip discharges inert gas onto roller surface

In a process to manufacture sheet strip magnesium, molten magnesium (M) or magnesium alloy is continuously cast and rolled through a gap (11) with upper and lower rollers (8, 9). The entire surface (18, 19) of one or both of the rollers is continuously bathed in a flow (G1, G2) of a liquefied gas that is inert with respect to magnesium. The liquid inert gas is released at a point from which it arrives at the gap in gaseous condition. The gas is discharged through one or more jets located within and extending the full width of the upper and/or lower rollers. Also claimed is a commensurate assembly.
