PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and program for image processing which detect dust at a read position with high accuracy and remove noise of a read image which occurs due to the dust. SOLUTION: By reading an image in a predetermined direction, color saturation information indicating the color saturations of pixels and lightness information indicating the lightnesses of the pixels are output. Based on the output color saturation information and lightness information, a dust pixel which is a candidate for a pixel indicating dust present in the predetermined direction, is extracted. Based on the output lightness information, a lightness change pixel which indicates a change portion of the lightness, is extracted. Of the extracted dust pixels, a dust pixel not extracted as a lightness change pixel and a dust pixel in which no light change pixel extracted by the lightness change pixel extracting means is present in the vicinity, are extracted as a pixel to be corrected. The color saturation information and lightness information of the extracted pixels are corrected using the color saturation information and lightness information of pixels present in the vicinity of the extracted pixels, and image information containing information indicating the corrected pixels is output.
