<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phase adjusting device of a screw-shaped grinding tool capable of precisely performing a phase adjusting of the screw-shaped grinding tool in relation to a gear to be machined or a dresser with a simple constitution. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the phase adjusting of the screw-shaped grinding tool 14 is performed for a workpiece W or the disc dresser 32 before meshing of the screw-shaped grinding tool 14 with the workpiece W or the disc dresser 32 during grinding or during dressing, whether or not the screw-shaped grinding tool 14 is in contact with the workpiece W or the disc dresser 32 is detected by an AE fluid sensor 42 provided in a grinding tool head 11 for rotatably supporting the screw-shaped grinding tool 14.
