PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing ethanol from a hydrolyzate of starch, cellulose and hemicellulose of main components of a biomass resource. SOLUTION: A microorganism belonging to the genus Mucor or the genus Rhizomucor is discovered to have excellent ethanol formability under anaerobic and aerobic conditions. Ethanol can efficiently be produced from starch, cellulose and hemicellulose of the main components of the biomass resource by using the microorganism. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
