<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device having sufficient protection from dusts and high quality look because a driving mechanism is not exposed to a user. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The optical disk device includes a first door 7 configured to close an opening, be opened before the insertion of an optical disk 10, and be closed after the insertion, gripping means 9a and 9b for gripping the inserted optical disk 10 in a direction vertical to the axial direction of a spindle motor 12, second doors 8a and 8b configured to close the section between the gripping means 9a and 9b of the housing 6 and the spindle motor 12 and be opened when the gripping means 9a and 9b grips the optical disk 10 and the first door 7 is closed, and means 15 for conveying the gripping means 9a and 9b to the spindle motor 12 side of the second doors 8a and 8b in the opened state of the second doors 8a and 8b. After the conveyance of the gripping means 9a and 9b to the spindle motor 12 side by the conveying means 15, the second doors 8a and 8b are closed, and the optical disk 10 released from the gripping means 9a and 9b is held by a holding means 14.
