<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the same image from being redundantly copied. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When copying an image file from an external recording medium to a built-in memory, information for identifying the image file to be copied is recorded in a directory entry area for managing file information. When copying the image file, the information for identifying the source image file is read from the directory entry of the built-in memory, it is determined whether an image to be copied has been already copied into the built-in memory.
