PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus capable of capturing the image of a bodily fluid such as arterial blood in a short period of time, and a method of controlling the same. SOLUTION: A longitudinal magnetization component Mz of the arterial blood AR is adjusted to 0 (Mz=0) and a longitudinal magnetization component Mz of the venous blood VE is adjusted to 1 (Mz=1) by executing a longitudinal magnetization adjusting pulse sequence 21. After that, a non-selective RF inverting pulse 22 is transmitted, and the longitudinal magnetization component Mz of the venous blood VE is inverted from Mz=1 to Mz=-1. As the venous blood VE of Mz=-1 is longitudinally relaxed and the longitudinal magnetization component Mz of the venous blood VE reaches a null point, a data collecting sequence is started at the time.
