PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens barrel and image capturing apparatus, wherein a member is prevented from being broken. SOLUTION: An interchangeable lens unit 2 includes a second lens group unit 77, a focus lens unit 75, a fourth lens group unit 78, a zoom ring unit 83, and a focus motor 64. The zoom ring unit 83 is configured so that an operating force input to a zoom ring 84 is mechanically transmitted to the second lens group unit 77 and fourth lens group unit 78. Using electric power, the focus motor 64 drives the focus lens unit 75 in the direction of an axis Z relative to the second lens group unit 77. If the zoom ring 84 is operated while no electrical power is supplied to the focus motor 64, a gap is constantly secured between the focus lens unit 75 and the second lens group unit 77 in the direction of the axis Z.
