<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can achieve a high-quality and high-definition image in image formation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises an ultrasonic oscillation part 11, an ultrasonic transmission part 12, and a liquid agent 13. When recording is performed by bringing an opposed recording material 15 into contact with a liquid column 14 formed by swelling the liquid agent by an ultrasonic energy, a condition of a burst length and a driving voltage to formation of the liquid column is satisfied, a condition of the driving voltage and an electrode diameter to a liquid column diameter is satisfied, and the electrode diameter and the driving voltage are determined. The burst length thus satisfies a condition table of the burst length, with the electrode diameter and the driving voltage, and a length of the liquid column. The length of the liquid column at the time is equal to a distance between a liquid level and the recording material. A pitch of the electrodes is equal to the diameter of the liquid column.
