<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that forms a second image on a first image on a recording material, the first and second images being formed with different developers, wherein the image forming apparatus is configured to reduce wear of image forming sections that form images on a recording material with the developers. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a first image forming section 2 that forms a first-color image on a recording material; a second image forming section 5 that forms a second-color image, different from the first color, on a recording material; and conveying paths 1 and 7, by which the recording material with the first-color image formed thereon by the first image forming section is conveyed to the second image forming section. The image forming section comprises a supply path 4, by which a recording material Ps stored in a storage section 101 is supplied to the second image forming section, without going via the first image forming section; and a control means 200 for stopping the first image forming section, when the second image forming section forms an image on a recording material supplied by the supply path.
