<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of problems caused such that, in the case a brush member is rotated to apply a lubricant onto an image carrier, a lot of lubricant scatters into the apparatus without being applied to the image carrier, and further, when the amount of the lubricant applied onto the image carrier is small, lubricity and protectability can not be obtained, thereby a cleaning failure and the problem of deterioration of the image carrier due to discharge are caused. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A lubricant application auxiliary member 5 is provided in the vicinity of the outlet side of a nip part in the rotary direction of the bush, of the contact nip part to the image carrier 1, of the brush member 3, and arranged so that one end side of the lubricant application auxiliary member is brought into contact with the brush member, and the other edge side is made close to the image carrier.
