<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a spherical polyphenylene ether powder efficiently and stably while inhibiting generation of finely divided powders and scales. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This method for producing the polyphenylene ether powder includes polymerization of mixed phenol compounds using a mixed solvent of a good solvent and poor solvent for polyphenylene ether. The resultant polyphenylene ether powder has a content of ≥80% of a particle with sphericity (DL/DS) of 1.0-1.2, that is, a ratio of a longer diameter (DL) to a shorter diameter (DS).
