In the manufacture of a metal planographic plate the non-image areas of the imaged plate are covered with a non-conductive material before subjecting the image areas to an electrolysis or electrophoresis step. The non-conductive layer is subsequently removed. The electrolysis may use an electrolyte in which positively charged resin particles are suspended.
