The device (100) has a generator unit (1) for producing electrical stimulation signals i.e. pulse train, that are supplied to a transcutaneous stimulation unit (2). The stimulation unit is attached to skin of a patient such that the signals stimulate a population of neurons with a pathologically synchronous and oscillatory neural activity. The signals applied by two sets of stimulation contact surfaces (11-12) of the stimulation unit are reset to two respective phases of the activity for subpopulations of the population. An independent claim is also included for a method for transcutaneous application of a stimulation signal.
