1,261,934. Polyurethanes. INTER-POLYMER RESEARCH CORP. 20 March, 1969 [22 March, 1968], No. 14829/69. Heading C3R. Polyurethanes are prepared by reacting 6- acyloxy caproic acids (defined) or alkyl 6- hydroxycaproates in which the alkyl group contains from 1 to 6 carbon atoms with 0À1 to 5 mols of water per mol of hydroxycaproic acid derivative at an elevated temperature, removing the acids or alkanols formed during the reaction to produce a hydrolysate mixture of 6- hydrocaproic acid and oligomers thereof, reacting the mixture with organic functional initiators to produce a polyester polyol and thereafter reacting the polyester polyol with a polyisocyanate. Preferred 6-acyloxycaproic acids are 6-formyloxy- and 6-acetoxycaproic acid whereas the preferred alkyl-6-hydroxycaproate is methyl 6-hydroxycaproate. Suitably, the organic functional initiator is a polyol, polyamine, aminoalcohols or' polycarboxylic acid. The polyurethanes may be prepared by the " one-shot " or " prepolymer " techniques. |
