An air and electric service line coupling assembly comprises a contact box 1 connected by means of arms 4 and 9 to an automatic coupler 6 for moving the box forward to the line of engagement 3 with a mating box, the box carrying a centring pin 15, an aperture 16 for the reception of a mating pin, a latch mechanism 20 for locking the mating pin within the aperture and an L-shaped lever 26 which keeps a pusher 8, adapted to keep the latch in its locked position during coupling, spaced from the latch when the box is not connected. During a coupling a sleeve 7 of the coupler 6 moves rearwardly and causes the box 1 to be moved up to line 3 where pin 15 enters aperture 16 in the mating box. The pins 15 contact the latches 20 in their mating boxes causing them to fall under gravity until protrusions 21 enter grooves 17 of the pins to lock them in position. Also each pin 15 contacts a lever 26 moving it to a position whereby a pusher 8 under the action of arms 4 and 9 causes a part 24 thereof to lock the latch in position. The electric contacts on the end of pusher will then be connected to mating contacts. A push-pull cable 47 is connected between box 1 and a mechanism 38 so that on coupling a stop 51 of the mating box pushes the cable inner core to release a piston of the mechanism 38 which rotates rod 35 and via lever 36 opens air valve 34 in the air line. On disengagement the reverse operation is carried out and the components take up their initial positions. |
