1,223,363. Electro-chemical analysis - cleaning electrodes. FORDERUNG DER FORSCHUNG AN DER EIDGENOSSISCHEN TECHNISCHEN HOCHSCHULE GES. ZUR. March 11, 1969, [March 14, 1968J, No.12727/69. Heading G1N. The exposed surfaces of electrodes are coplanar with the surface of an insulating body in which they are embedded, so that the geometry is unchanged by the abrading action of a "cleaning scraper" moving over the coplanar surfaces. As shown coaxial cylindrical electrodes 18, 19, are embedded in a block 20. A motor-driven stainless-steel shaft 23 journalled in the housing 11 rotates a corundum abrading member 27 which is urged against the electrodes and block by spring 29 and collar 30. A sinuous cam track 40 at the lower end of the shaft is engaged by screw 41 to slowly reciprocate a PVC cap 34 surrounding the electrodes, so that liquid in the test chamber is continuously intermixed with that surrounding the electrode assembly. (Screws 38 engaging slots 39 in the housing prevent the cap from rotating.) The anode may be zinc and the cathode a silver amalgam. |
