Class 23 Sludge is separated from a liquid in a bowl having a chamber 8 in which coarser sludge is separated, and a chamber 12 containing a stack 13 of liner plates and in which the finer sludge is separated from the liquid from the chamber 8, the chambers 8, 12 having spaces 9, 14 in which the sludges collect before discharge from the bowl through apertures 15. The liquid is fed to the bowl distributer 4 from a pipe 5, and passes through channels 16 and beneath a baffle 18 into the chamber 8. From the chamber 8 the sludge passes to the space 9 which is provided with wings, extending from the chamber 8, whilst the separated liquid is discharged through channels 11 into the chamber 12. Sludge free liquid discharges from the chamber 12 and the bowl through apertures 16, whilst the finer sludge passes to the space 14. In a modification, the chamber 8 is at the bottom of the bowl, liquid from the chamber 8 passing to the chamber 12 through channels which extend across the passage supplying the chamber 8. |
