A vehicle headlamp consists of a concave, e.g. parabolic, reflector 1, a light source 6, a front glass 4 and a plate 3, located between the source and the front glass, bearing optical means 5 to deflect the light e.g. to produce an asymmetric beam. The means 5 may consist of a band of right-angled prisms covering a strip in the middle of the plate. The plate may be held at the edges between the rim of the reflector and the edge of the front glass which may be shouldered as shown. Alternatively, it may be in close contact with the face of the front glass, being held at the edges or over the whole surface. The plate may be of plastics material which may be coloured. |
