1,121,562. Fuel elements. UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION. 20 May, 1966 [16 June, 1965], No. 22439/66. Heading G6C. A fuel element assembly comprises an outer, generally cylindrical sleeve with retaining means provided at 60 degree intervals around its inner wall, and pairs of spacers formed as open triangles of deflectable semi rigid sheet materials having modular loops at each corner, with adjacent members of the pairs of open triangles rotated 60 degrees with respect to each other about the longitudinal axis of the fuel element assembly and disposed within the sleeve with the loops positioned intermediate the retaining means, whereby elongated fuel rods disposed in the spaces defined by plane walls of the spacers and part-cylindrical walls of the sleeve are retained in spaced relation. The retaining means may comprise rounded or elongated indentations deformed radially inward in the sleeve, being spaced circumferentially every 60 degrees and longitudinally along the sleeve. |
