<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laminated electrochemical element which has high volumetric efficiency, a well-balanced simple structure, high reliability and a good current collective property, and can be efficiently manufactured. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In an electrochemical element having an electrode plate group 10 in which a plurality of first electrodes 15a and a plurality of second electrodes 15b are laminated in turn via separators 16, the plurality of the first electrodes 15a are composed of first collector sheets 13a and at least one first electrode mixture layer 14a carried thereby, respectively, the plurality of the second electrodes 15b are composed of second collector sheets 13b and at least one second electrode mixture layer 14b carried thereby, respectively. Further, the plate group 10 has a first, a second, a third and a fourth side surfaces in which end portions of the respective collector sheets 13a, 13b and end portions of the respective separators 16 are arranged substantially on the same plane, and at least one of the first, second, third and fourth side surfaces is covered with a porous material 19 having an electronic insulating property.
